Professor Popescu and Iosif Gabrea Villa

Este vorba, de fapt, de un tandem de locuinţe cuplate, fără a aborda clasica compoziţie în ogindă, proprietari fiind profesorul Popescu şi Iosif Gabrea. Casa reeditează, ceva mai modest, elemente de limbaj din vocabularul vecinei sale ceva mai opulente situate pe aceeaşi stradă la numarul 16: foişorul cilindric de colţ cu acoperire conică, motivul cuplării ferestrelor în sistem de câte trei, copertina de tip acoperiş de sine stătător, rezemată pe console de lemn, aflată deasupra intrării. O frumoasă caracteristică a acestei case este îmbrăcămintea aproape totală în iederă a faţadei de nord-vest (principală) – romantic “perete verde”, cum i-am spune astăzi. Restaurarea recentă a văduvit construcţia de materialul original al învelitorii. Se remarcă ieşirea în grădină printr-un element de tip bovindou, cu acces către un podest şi o scară semi-elicoidală acoperite cu piatră. Decoraţia este mai simplă decât în cazul altor locuinţe unifamiliale concepute de arhitectă: ancadramente rectangulare în jurul golurilor, baluştri obişnuiţi în dreptul parapetelor.
The building shelters, in fact, two attached houses that don't adopt the classical "mirror" composition. The owners were professor Popescu and Iosif Gabrea. The house re-edits, in a more simple way, elements from the architectural vocabulary of its sophisticated neighbour on the same street (no. 16): the cylindrical tower with conical roof in the corner, the organisation of windows in packs of three, the entrance canopy solved as an independent roof sustained by a wooden structure. A beautiful characteristic of this house is the almost complete covering of the main north-western façade with hanging vegetation - a romantic "green wall", as we may call it today. In the recent rehabilitation of the house the original ceramic tiles of the roof have been lost. A special element is the relation with the garden, realised through a separate volume (bow-window) acceded by a semi-helicoidal stair covered with stone. Decoration is simpler than in the case of other individual houses conceived by the architect, consisting in rectangular frames around the windows and common pillars forming the balustrades.
